The politician began his career as a congressman from Illinois. Throughout his career, he defended the poor and humble and favored the creation of industries in the northern United States.
Abraham Lincoln was the first president elected by the Republican Party. He became the 16th president of the United States in 1860.

His government officially began on March 4, 1861, with the great challenge of facing the separatism of seven slave states in the southern United States. Lincoln was considered a moderate reformer at the beginning of his presidency, but he later managed to stand out and adopt more radical measures.
The president died on April 15, 1865, after being shot in the back of the head while attending a show at Ford's Theater in Washington. His killer was former actor John Wilkes Booth, an avowed slaveholder.
