Mushroom, the natural drug
Some mushrooms are considered natural drugs, due to the degree of hallucination they can cause. Its use dates back thousands of years as hallucinogenic substances, but its effect depends on each individual's organism.
Does Mushroom Drug cause addiction?
It does not lead to dependence or withdrawal syndrome. Among some mushrooms, we can mention:
Amanita Muscaria – it contains two types of hallucinogens; muscimol and ibotemic acid. They stimulate GABA neurotransmitters (the brain's main inhibitory neurotransmitter) in the central nervous system. There are two stages of effect: firstly, disorientation, sleepiness, lack of coordination. Subsequently, intense euphoria, lack of sense of time, visual hallucinations and mood changes (rage). In excess, it causes intoxication and can be lethal.
Psilocybe Cubensis – stimulates acetylcholine receptors found in the brain and nervous system. It causes salivation, loss of control of urine and feces, tearing, cramps, nausea, vomiting, drop in heart rate and blood pressure. The hallucinogens present are similar to LSD and also cause euphoria, drowsiness, blurred vision, dilated pupils, among others. Its effect lasts approximately three hours.
