The equation emerged as a solution to solve problems for a given situation. Until then, mathematical processes were used. Algebraic elements began to be used, thus constituting equations.
Putting a problem in the form of algebraic expressions does not solve it. It is necessary to solve these expressions and, therefore, studies on methods for solving equations emerged.
With mathematical manipulations it is possible to solve an equation. To do this, in general, letters are used, called unknowns. They represent any number. It is very common to find them in expressions that help in determining an equation.
Example: An equation of the type ax+b=0 is given by the expression x= -b/a.
x represents the unknown. This is the value you want to find. a and b represent the coefficients of the equation, represented by any number.
