The Christian Harp – Assembly of God
The Christian Harp is a book from the Assembly of God in Brazil, which contains hymns in the evangelical context, called hinário.
Its creation dates back to 1921, but the official publication took place in 1922, in Recife, with 1000 copies in circulation. Its second edition took place in 1923, and was relaunched in Rio de Janeiro in 1932.
Used in Christian celebrations and because it has content related to faith, the Harp added new compositions and the first Christian Harp with lyrics and music began to be created in 1937, being presented in 1981 with
all hymns revised. Before the revision was completed, in 1979, a specific commission was appointed to take care of the general revision, called CPAD (Administrative Council of the Publication House of the Assemblies of God).
Who wrote the book “The Christian Harp” by the Assembly of God?
Written by pastor and journalist Silas Daniel, the book “The history of the hymns we love” provides information about the compositions of various hymns, as well as the people linked to them. According to the author of the book, there are several stories that touched him and he decided to put them in the book. An example is the hymn “I'm happy”, created through the story of a father who lost his three young daughters in a tragedy. There are 350 pages and 59 chapters.
With more than 90 years of existence, the Christian Harp is recognized by members of the Assembly of God and non-members, including gospel singers who have recorded hymns or parts of them.
