A fraction represents a part of a whole. It is considered a representation of quantity – a numerical representation. It arose from the need to represent numbers smaller than an integer.
It makes it possible to carry out all operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, power and radiciation.

Every fraction can be represented using a number line. Example: ½ (one half). It means that half of a whole was considered. Therefore, on the number line, the middle is between 0 and 1.
The fraction can be written with a specific name and written as a percentage, decimal numbers and mixed numbers. Example: 0.5%.
